For this Los Altos Hills project, Design by M&M built a fully equipped detached accessory dwelling unit (ADU) positioned above the garage. The ADU was designed as an open-concept living space with its own private entrance, giving the property a flexible, independent area that can be used for guests, family, work-from-home needs, or long-term living.
The goal was to create a separate living space that feels comfortable, bright, and practical without taking away from the main home. The finished ADU includes an open kitchen and living area, modern finishes, clean cabinetry, updated fixtures, and large windows that bring in natural light and views of the surrounding property.
Because the unit was built above the garage, the project required thoughtful planning around access, layout, structure, utilities, and day-to-day functionality. The result is a private, self-contained space that adds meaningful usability and long-term value to the property.
